KUALA LUMPUR: If you receive an SMS saying you have just won RM15,000 in cash and RM250 in reload credit, beware - it is a scam.

The text message reads “Tahniah, simcard anda memenangi hadiah cek tunai RM15,000 plus reload kredit RM250 dari peraduan DiGi. Sila hubungi 006281343842239, terima kasih” (Congratulations, your simcard has won RM15,000 in cash plus reload credit of RM250 from a DiGi contest, please contact 006281343842239, thank you).

According to DiGi head of corporate communications Saffura Chinniah, it is one of the common SMS hoaxes that get circulated around and people should not fall prey to these scams.

Chinniah, who also received the SMS, said the contact number provided belonged to an Indonesian mobile phone.

“Please ignore hoax SMSes promising rewards and cash prizes, especially when they require you to provide your bank account number.”

When contacted, DiGi head of customer service, Christina Ng, said that these messages are not sent by DiGi and urged customers to report and delete the messages.

“DiGi does not condone these chain letter style spam messages. We hope that our customers will not fall prey to these scams.”

Ng added that customers should get in touch with DiGi customer service personnel at 0162211800 or www.digi.com.my to authenticate and report suspicious messages received.

So, never believe that you can easily get huge money in suddent unless you have joined any valid contest that clearly stated their prizes as such.

Me also got the same sms except tht the amount was 11000. when i saw 0062.. it was indonesian number and didnt pay much attention and expecting someone from DIGI will inform me about its invalidity…but DIGI is just hoping tht customers will not fall prey to this sms..I think its moral reponsibility of DIGI to stop it and least they could do was to send sms to all the customers denying the facts but Ng thinks its customers responsibility not to fall prey..true..but i think its DIGI moral and ethical reponsibility coz the criminal is using their name with their customers

zeshan, I agreed with your opinion about DIGI’s moral responsibility to their customers. I never received so far, if not mistaken but not sure whether because I’m not DIGI’s customer or due to mine is a postpaid number.

At least DIGI should send a mass SMS to all their customers to alert them about the SCAM, just like what all banks have done but putting a notice at each ATMs about few SCAMs
