It has been a very long time since 1979 that my hometown never get a serious flood but last Tuesday, once I reached office about 9am, I received a phone call from my mum, “Our house get flooded, it’s already at knee level now”. “OK mum”, I said, just to cool her and myself since I just reached office.
I then immediately asked for emergency leave for the whole week starting from that afternoon with the hope there is still some spare time for me to help once I reached my hometown.
While preparing to go back to my hometown that afternoon, about 1:30pm, one of my cousins called me. “Where are you now?”, he asked. “I’m at home, preparing to go back now”. He replied, “Nevermind, nothing else we can do. The flood has reached waist level now”.
Allah The All Mighty! It’s too fast. He just asked me to go back carefully and do not exit from the highway after paying the last toll. Just go straight and park at the roadside of the highway in front of our village.
About 6pm I reached my hometown with the traffic heavily congested everywhere. I straight away took my notebook, passed to my friend and rush to see my parent’s house. There is not much changes on the water level.
At night, it still raining. Spent my time with friends while monitoring the traffic that trying to use our area as a shortcut. The rain stop for an hour around 11pm before continue around mid-night and this time it is a heavy rain. I have no choice, just went back to get some rest first.
The next day, the rain has stopped and the condition improving slowly. Once the water level has reached a reasonable level for me to take a look at the house, I give and try to pay a visit, checked into the house - almost everything floating everywhere. Looks like there is a heavy water current that caused everything floating around - including the refrigerator! The highest level is about my chest! One of the worst flood incident since my childhood.
In the late afternoon, the condition getting improved and we can go back and start to clean up our house. One of the hard part before we can start clean up other things.
I returned to my home on Saturday as there are other things need to do.
